The procedure involves the injection of fat dissolving substances that slowly dissolve the deposits in the target areas. The body naturally eliminates the residue after a Lipo-dissolve session over the course of the next four weeks. Side effects can include swelling, bruising, discomfort or itching. Lipo-dissolve for localized fat pads was first performed by the Italians in 1984. Since then physicians all over the world have successfully used the Lipo-Dissolve procedures on thousands of patients. Beta-blockers (used in treating high blood pressure) and certain thyroid conditions can interfere chemically with the procedure and the physician must be notified. The active ingredients are derivatives of soy. It is thus contraindicated in patients with soy allergy. Phosphatidylcholine (PC) is the primary constituent of Lipo-dissolve treatments. PC makes up 40% of our cell membranes and is found throughout our bodies. It has been used medically for over 70 years.
